World Cares Center rose from the ashes of the 9-11 attacks when New Yorkers volunteered side by side with rescue workers. As we enter the 16th year following the attacks, we would like to commemorate the anniversary with stories of survival, human kindness and the ability to celebrate the human spirit. The Iron Skillet® Cook Off will honor the incredible relief effort that gave rise to World Cares Center and support their work helping communities prevent and recover from disasters.

Check back often for updates or follow us on Facebook and Twitter as the competition unfolds.

A Little History About The Iron Skillet© Cook Off

World Cares Center was founded in the aftermath of the September the 11th attacks by New Yorkers who came out of their homes and places of work to volunteer side by side with rescue workers helping our city recover.

Food was an integral part of the recovery effort. Chefs from restaurants including Bouley fed our rescue workers around the clock, citizens delivered support along with meals and the community bonds that were developed will last a lifetime.  It was there that the concept of the Iron Skillet© Cook Off was developed.

Those experiences guide World Cares Center’s mission and our annual event, The Iron Skillet Cook Off. We are one community that pulls together to help each other. Together we are at our best and we want you to be part of that community.
