Federal Hall, built in 1700 as New York’s City Hall, later served as the first capitol building of the United States of America under the Constitution, as well as the site of George Washington’s inauguration as the first President of the United States. It was also where the United States Bill of Rights was introduced in the First Congress. Federal Hall National Memorial was built in 1842 as the United States Custom House, on the site of the old Federal Hall on Wall Street.
On September 18, 2017 the competition heats up for an evening of food, philanthropy and fun!
The 2017 Iron Skillet® Cook Off pairs five firehouse chefs, one from each borough, with five restaurant chefs. The firehouse chefs will take a signature recipe and the restaurant chef will collaborate to add their culinary flair and elevate the dish to competition level. The five teams will present their creations to our panel of celebrity judges and compete for the vaunted Iron Skillet®. Event guests will have their say as well, mingling with the teams, tasting the collaborative concoctions and texting their votes. The exciting annual event raises funds and awareness for World Cares Center.
World Cares Center rose from the ashes of the 9-11 attacks when New Yorkers volunteered side by side with rescue workers. As we enter the 16th year following the attacks, we would like to commemorate the anniversary with stories of survival, human kindness and the ability to celebrate the human spirit. The Iron Skillet® Cook Off will honor the incredible relief effort that gave rise to World Cares Center and support their work helping communities prevent and recover from disasters.

Food was an integral part of the recovery effort. Chefs from restaurants including Bouley fed our rescue workers around the clock, citizens delivered support along with meals and the community bonds that were developed will last a lifetime. It was there that the concept of the Iron Skillet© Cook Off was developed.
Those experiences guide World Cares Center’s mission and our annual event, The Iron Skillet Cook Off. We are one community that pulls together to help each other. Together we are at our best and we want you to be part of that community.
Please stay tuned as our plans unfold and we add to our list of celebrity judges, restaurant chefs, and all the other people and sponsors that make this wonderful event happen and support World Cares Centers programs.
