World Cares Center, a nonprofit founded amidst the 9/11/2001 response, is hosting its Hope, Love and Courage 9/11 Mural Project to honor 25 years of community response and the legacy that shaped our mission. Through the traveling mural, New Yorkers will engage in interactive and artistic reflection, Recognition, and Resilience. All are welcome.
The traveling Hope, Love & Courage Healing Mural will bring New Yorkers together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 through art, healing, and community. The mural will visit four locations: the Port Authority Bus Terminal (South Terminal) on September 10 from 7am-6pm; Pier 86 at the Intrepid Museum on September 11 from 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; and Center Moriches Free Public Library on September 12 from Noon-2pm.
Adults and children, artists and non-artists alike, are invited to add their own creative touches using provided paints and markers at this free community event. Volunteers interested in assisting at any location can register for a shift by contacting implementation@worldcares.org.
The Mural Project is part of World Cares Center’s Hope, Love & Courage initiative, created in the aftermath of 9/11 to help responders, survivors, and families process grief and trauma through creative, nonverbal expression. Over the past 25 years, the initiative has evolved into an international resiliency program, bringing healing, hope, and connection to communities impacted by disasters around the world.
“The Mural Project continues the legacy of Hope, Love & Courage 25 years later,” said World Cares Center Founder Lisa Orloff. “It remains a cornerstone of our mission to provide disaster survivors and responders with tools to express, connect and heal in times of crisis.”
World Cares Center is changing the way our country and world responds to disasters through a common disaster volunteer credential, an open source coordination platform and the Hope, Love Courage Program. Founded in the aftermath of 9/11, WCC has trained and credentialed more than 100,000 Ready Responders and survivors, equipping them with life-saving skills, personal protective equipment, trauma-informed care, and leadership in coordination efforts.
